Best.Movie.Ever.

OK, that's a lot of pre-judging based on a trailer...but this pushes all the right buttons in such a short amount of time.

Check out the trailer at the link

Farewell to a caring warrior.....

Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli, the Army’s vice chief of staff, is leaving the Army in much the same manner that he served in it over the past decade: as an iconoclast.
As the Army’s second-highest-ranking general in the Pentagon, Chiarelli has pressed harder than any other officer to change the way soldiers view post-traumatic stress and other mental-health injuries. So far his efforts have not yielded a reduction in the Army’s record-high suicide rate — a source of disappointment to the general.
Chiarelli’s passionate advocacy and willingness to criticize his own service, however, have won him admirers in the Pentagon and among soldiers and their families.

Valentines Day is support your local Starbucks Day

"A nationwide boycott of Starbucks stores and its products will be launched on Valentine's Day 2012. Its goal is to eliminate the risk of guns in public places and ultimately to bring sane gun laws to the U.S."
I plan to visit my local Starbucks while carrying, especially on Valentine's Day.

Goose, meet Gander

Some activists might want to consider the secondary and tertiary effects of their crusades. It would appear that I could refuse to serve Christians under a GOP proposed bill in New Hampshire.

The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing Tuesday on the bill that allows the practice if a business owner, an employee or anyone else felt providing the services related to a marriage or its celebration would violate his or her conscience or religious faith. The bill also would bar lawsuits against people denying services to the couples.
Supporters touted the bill as a balance between freedom of religion and sexual orientation while opponents called it "codified discrimination."
New Hampshire's gay marriage law already exempts churches and religious groups from being forced to officiate gay marriages or provide services to participants.

There's that alleged "war on religion" again...

Of course, the media, they can’t figure evangelicals out, period, because you don’t start with a belief in the power of God. You don’t start with a belief in the power of faith, you don’t start with the belief that your faith is at the center of your life. So for a lot of the media, this is all very strange stuff. They understand a lot better friends of theirs that are totally atheist and secular than they do friends that are evangelical.
I think that the two key appeals are passion. I think they instinctively can tell that I care so deeply about this country, and the future of their children and grandchildren, that I’m different than a normal politician. And second, I think the sense that I understand that there’s a war against religion, and that I am prepared as you can see on newt.org in our 54 page paper on judgeships, I am prepared to actually fight back for the first time in our lifetime, and take on the judiciary when it is over-reaching, and when it’s trying to drive God out of life.

Newt....If you cared deeply about our country, you'd care deeply about it's citizens. Seriously? "Drive God out of life"?

People like Newt and Santorum take a value system that has many thoughtful and lasting contributions to society.....and make a mockery of it.

Zombie-killing gun porn!

Ideally for use in the zombie apocalypse, the Doublestar Zombie X Chainsaw Rail Attachment is surprisingly quiet and runs on a stock-mounted battery rather than messy, flame-prone gasoline.
This particular model has a few other features as well, including a EOTech Zombie Stopper XPS2-Z Holographic Sight which gives you a biohazard sign instead of your normal crosshair; another zombie apocalypse must. Whether or not that electric chainsaw really packs a punch or whether it’s really just a glorified hedgetrimmer is anyone’s guess, and as of now, you’ll have a hard time finding out. Doublestar’s previous effort, the DSC Zombie Slayer, sold for $1,249.99 but the Zombie X, for the moment, isn’t for sale. You can bet that if it does go up though, it’s going to cost a pretty penny. Then again, your survival in the zombie-ridden wilderness of the end days is priceless.

WaPo Article: Ten reasons we're no longer the Land of the Free

Even as we pass judgment on countries we consider unfree, Americans remain confident that any definition of a free nation must include their own — the land of free. Yet, the laws and practices of the land should shake that confidence. In the decade since Sept. 11, 2001, this country has comprehensively reduced civil liberties in the name of an expanded security state. The most recent example of this was the National Defense Authorization Act, signed Dec. 31, which allows for the indefinite detention of citizens. At what point does the reduction of individual rights in our country change how we define ourselves?

Prince Phillip... Comedic Genius!

Ninety Gaffes in 90 years.

This guys deadpan is awesome! Some choice quotes:

18. "If it has four legs and it is not a chair, if it has got two wings and it flies but is not an aeroplane and if it swims and it is not a submarine, the Cantonese will eat it." Said to a World Wildlife Fund meeting in 1986.

23. "If a cricketer, for instance, suddenly decided to go into a school and batter a lot of people to death with a cricket bat, which he could do very easily, I mean, are you going to ban cricket bats?" In a Radio 4 interview shortly after the Dunblane shootings in 1996. He said to the interviewer off-air afterwards: "That will really set the cat among the pigeons, won't it?"

34. "If you travel as much as we do you appreciate the improvements in aircraft design of less noise and more comfort – provided you don't travel in something called economy class, which sounds ghastly." To the Aircraft Research Association in 2002.

53. "People think there's a rigid class system here, but dukes have even been known to marry chorus girls. Some have even married Americans." In 2000.

67. "I don't think a prostitute is more moral than a wife, but they are doing the same thing." Dismissing claims that those who sell slaughtered meat have greater moral authority than those who participate in blood sports, in 1988.

Where's the "liberal" media??

Earlier this week, the Lawrence Journal-World was sent an email that O'Neal had forwarded to House Republicans that referred to President Obama and a Bible verse that says “Let his days be few and brief.”
The email, which has been posted in various places on the Internet, refers to a bumper sticker that reads “Pray for Obama. Psalm 109:8.”
Psalm 109:8 says, “Let his days be few and brief; and let others step forward to replace him.”
The email states: “At last — I can honestly voice a Biblical prayer for our president! Look it up — it is word for word! Let us all bow our heads and pray. Brothers and Sisters, can I get an AMEN? AMEN!!!!!!”
Both of the forwarded emails were sent from O'Neal's private email address.

The next verse: “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

Quote of the Day

Newt is an angry little attack muffin - Peggy Noonan

Love it!

Don't get me wrong, I sort of like Newt. I'd thoroughly enjoy sharing some single malt and talking with him for hours on a wide variety of subjects. I feel the same way about Mike Huckabee. There are some politicians who I believe are entirely genuine, and genuinely good people.

But I don't want them to lead the nation. I'm probably the odd duck, but I don't want a contest of personalities and flair in my national races. That is for game show hosts. For my President, I want a boring technocrat. I want someone who will follow the law of the land, without pandering to sacred cows and graven images...someone who will honor the sanctity of personal liberty and consensual freedoms. A President who understands both what makes us exceptional, but knows our limitations; one who pursues fiscal policy like a single parent with a mortgage and braces to pay for.

But what am I treated to? What we in the Army use to call  dick measuring contest. Good hair, good teeth, the right level of patriotic exuberance and the quick list of approved catch phrases.

It's American Idol for politics....and all get to choose from are varying copies of William Hung.
