But, but....Romney's supporters all said he was right....

Clearly in a campaign with hundreds, if not thousands, of speeches and question and answer sessions, now and then you’re going to say something that doesn’t come out right. In this case, I said something that’s just completely wrong. And I absolutely believe however that my life has shown that I care about 100%. And that’s been demonstrated throughout my life. And this whole campaign is about the 100%. When I become president, it will be about helping the 100%. - Mitt Romney, Oct 3rd

I think there was some merit to what he originally said; I just don't think the number is 47%, and I think it was one of the more moronic statements for a presidential candidate to say.

  2. "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: 'From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage." ~ Alexander Tytler (1747-1813)

  3. THAT is what Mittens was talking about with his 47% comment.
We are currently living in the age of Apathy.
For the past 50 years, an average of about 55-60% of the population has participated in presidential elections. This has mostly been on a slow but steady decrease since 1960. The 2008 turnout spiked UP to 56%, largely due to the efforts of the (Haaacgh...Ptooey!) Democrat Party.
We are moving rapidly into the age of Dependence.
The steady rise in the number of people succumbing to the tender mercies of our welfare programs MUST be turned around. Otherwise, a return to the age of Bondage is not far off.

  4. MSgt B, I absolutely agree with Tytler's statement and your follow-up...and while I don't agree with Romney's number of 47%, a number certainly exists.

My point was, that why after both making the statement and having your amassed followers defend it so vociferously, would one come back and repudiate it?

The age of apathy and dependence wasn't just ushered in by the Democrats....it's been aided and abetted by the GOP at every turn.

One of the other two reasons for the decline and fall of the Murrican Democracy in the 21st century.

  5. Two days after the date is over Obama wants us to believe that what he is saying, is the truth,no matter how much of a stretch it is.
After his empty chair performance in the debate this past week, Obama just gets harder and harder to believe.. And to top that he and his minions offer 25 different and ridiculous excuses about why he acted as stupidly as he did, from the "High Altitude in Colorado, to the hard work that he had been doing that week, Yeah right!!!
    .
We all know that the Obamboozler couldn't recognize the truth if it bit him in the backside. Now we see that it took him and a team of writers 14 hours to figure out what to say about it, as if he gets a "Do Over". Isn't it amazing how inept Obie really is when he can't use his teleprompter.. And faced with a real candidate who knows the real answers and someone that he can't bully .

Boy did Clint Eastwood get it right.

  6. There is no defense of Obama's debate performance. But Clint was only half right. This is the election of the empty chair versus the empty suit.

That Mitt finally became animated enough to warrant excitement in his own campaign, is not necessarily indicative of future performance. I'm actually looking forward to the foreign policy debate, where both candidates have espoused nothing tangibly different than the Bush policies. It will be interested to see how they attempt to make a contrast.

Though it's an interesting theory to believe that only the Democrats lie and obfuscate.
