Intemperate thought of the day

I abhor the non-stop media coverage of the Zimmerman trial........but Rachel Jeantel just about represents everything that is wrong with America today.

  1. Agreed.

I keep hearing on CNN and MSNBC how credible Jeantel is. Pfffft.

    1. I gets even worse than that.

From Mediaite: Rachel Jeantel, the star prosecution witness in the George Zimmerman murder trial, has been the subject of barely-masked racial and intellectual contempt since she took the stand on Wednesday, and on Thursday night’s All In with Chris Hayes, host Chris Hayes and linguistics expert John McWhorter called out the ugly treatment she has received. McWhorter delved into Jeantel’s consistent and articulate usage of “Black English,” and he and Hayes called out the “willful” nature of defense attorney Don West‘s befuddlement at Rachel’s communication style.

      And From Global Grind:

But maybe the reason white people don’t understand Rachel Jeantel has something more to do with white privilege then, what they would call, Rachel’s capricious nature.

  2. The fact of the matter is, whether she is articulate or not (and she's not), if this is the best that the prosecution can do, then Zimmerman walks.

I keep going back to the DA who announced in rapturous declarations that Zimmerman had been re-arrested. I wonder if she will be re-visited by the press since this has been such a media circus.

Of course, the more that the press dwells on this, the less they have to cover such stories as the IRS, NSA, Benghazi, &c, &c.

  3. Exactly. This case is all but decided. It's also a further example of how sad our media has become. Of the cable news channels I flip through for background noise while getting ready for work....only Fox Business isn't covering the trial live.
