While much of the celebratory trimmings were fairly classy, there were many in attendance who made a caricature of both the holiday, and Irish culture. Nevermind that most seem to be oblivious and ignorant to the meaning of the day.
It's quite allowed to portray the Irish as drunkards....but heaven forbid we portray another ethnic or racial culture in a far more factual light.
The extent to which I'm Irish, I'm Northern Irish, so I wear orange, but I certainly take your meaning.
ReplyDeleteIt's perfectly fine to characterise Germans as militaristic, and all Southerners -- all of them -- are racists, but we have to be tolerant of the latest fad of minorities, particularly if they want to kill us. We have to -- how is it? -- feel their pain -- the poor darlings.

Yep, and they're surprisingly all of a particular ethnicity...but I'm sure thats just coincidence.....
