DC takes a step toward civil liberty

A federal judge has declared that one of the District’s principal gun control laws is unconstitutional and ordered that its enforcement be halted.
The ruling by Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr., made public Saturday, orders the city to end its prohibition against carrying a pistol in public.
It was not clear what immediate effect the order would have.
The order was addressed to the District of Columbia and Police Chief Cathy Lanier, as well as their employees and officers and others “who receive actual notice” of the ruling. But it could not be determined Sunday who had received notice. Also unclear was whether the city would appeal and what effect that would have on the enforcement ban.

The District has a loooong way to go of course....but at least now, I can carry in the one place I regularly travel to....where I have wanted to carry. It will be interesting to see if the rate of violent crime decreases once this takes effect.......and how the gun control cabal will spin it.

I predict dead air and distraction by appealing to emotion. That's been their modus operandi thus far.

  1. I guarantee the crime rate will not be lowered. Period.

    1. Bold assertion. Particularly when sourced with the poignant and empirical facts of......."period".

Of course, since Cook County, IL, and Florida [among many other places] have experienced a decrease in violent crime - after - concealed carry, or 'shall issue' took effect.....I think we'll welcome your backpedaling if proven wrong.

    2. Actually, when the Heller case went down back in 2008, the murder rate DID go down.

    3. Will - Musn't let facts get in the way of rhetoric. Besides...I'm sure that some liberal program is the 'real' reason behind the drop./sarc

  2. Crime rate or not: this is a Constitutional right that is at question. REGARDLESS of the impact on the crime rate, under the Law of the Land of the United States, this is an excellent decision.

CI: The crime rate probably will go down. Makes logical sense. Before and after this decision, criminals break the law and carry guns. Now it is a lot more OK for law abiding citizens to carry and deter the actions of the criminals.

    1. But...but...what about my "right" to "feeeeel safe"?

    2. CI: It is nothing more than a falsely perceived "right" to deprive others of their rights. It is identical to the logic of those in whites-only neighborhoods who perceive that their rights are violated if blacks are allowed to live next door.
