Well, no kidding....

The memo to Mr. Stephanopoulos, who was then a senior adviser to Mr. Clinton and is now an ABC News host who is currently under fire for $75,000 in contributions he made to the Clinton Foundation, warns of the potential electoral consequences an aggressive gun control push could bring.
“As much as I hate to say it, the NRA is effective primarily because it is largely right when it claims that most gun control laws inconvenience and threaten the law-abiding while having little or no impact on violent crime or criminals,” wrote Jody Powell, the former Carter press aide.
“I support registration in principle,” the memo reads. “But two questions need to be asked. Are the people causing the problem going to comply voluntarily? If not, do you have a way to effectively enforce compliance? If the answer is ‘no’ in both cases, consider whether the benefits are worth making Bob Dole majority leader.”
Washington Times

Wait.....you mean gun control only legally affects the law abiding??? Who knew?

The gun control camp knows this....so what are they really after? We can see the shape of the strategy to come, if Hillary Clinton moves into 1600 Penn.
“We cannot let a minority of people — and that’s what it is, it is a minority of people — hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people,” she said at a CNN town hall event last year.
Translation: peoples ignorant fear of something they don't understand....should trump Constitutional and civil rights.....because it will make them feel better.

  1. Well, what you see here is an observation of political realities, not a validation of gun nuttery.

It's even more true now. Americans are probably more liberal now than they have been in a couple decades, but on the gun issue, they like guns and want them to be easily available, and quite a bit more than they did then. Personally, I think it's just selfish, childish fixation.

    1. It's good that you have an understanding of the gun control strategy....a selfish, childish fixation.

    2. I just worry about the future of country that takes so lightly such serious things, a country that puts it's selfish, petty wants ahead of it's better judgement, a country saturated with weapons - and fear and anger. And I must, in good conscience, confront people who demand rights without responsibility.

    3. You have no metric for your assertion of who takes what 'lightly' or who is 'demanding rights without responsibility'.......beyond your personal biases, and yet you would see legislation based upon that foundation. That is selfish.

    4. You seem unable to have discourse on this subject without relying on pejoratives ["gun nuttery"], immeasurable and emotion-driven parameters ["saturated"], and the general gun control script.

Do I "demand" my rights? You're damned right I do. But I am also accountable and responsible with and for my rights. If I'm not, I have violated the law, and will be justly indicted.

What is selfish and petty, is a campaign to abrogate a Constitutional and civil right, without the due process by means of the explicit mechanism by which to amend or alter that right.

I would think that you should be ashamed at the ineffectual and absurd legislation that the gun control camp has succeeded in getting passed. Measures with the cumulative effect of making some people feel better....people without the foresight to realize that unduly, and un-Constitutionally, abridging any Constitutional right, is precedence for abridging all Constitutional rights.

    5. It doesn't matter now, CI. You guys got your way. Guns are everywhere.

    6. You really don't get it do you? I could care less how many guns are in existence. I care about Constitutional and civil rights. Why don't you?

  2. You don't have the right to give guns to whoever you want. You don't have the right manufacture or trade in anything you want, free of any local, state, or federal regulation or tax. You don't. You don't care about the Constitution or Civil Rights. You just wrap yourself in the Constitution and Civil Rights to rationalize your argument for an unfettered arms sector, because you like the boom boom guns.

    1. This is what makes the gun control camp so entertaining. You simply cannot discuss the issue with a factual basis. You respond with a stew of tantrum; a collage of undefined rhetoric based on an argument nobody is making.

"Free of tax?" Where did that come from?

"Unfettered 'arms sector'?" What does that even mean?

Ah, but I don't care about the Constitution or civil rights.....whereas I'm the arguing for enforcing said rights. Good one. You never fail to entertain!

    2. CI, you IQ precipitously drops whenever this subject is raised. I don't know why, but there it is. I can rationally relate with you on this subject.

    3. It's sad that you seem to never be able to provide a foundation for what you write, and even sadder, when what you write makes no sense. Why do you level charges [continually] and when asked for context, never sack up and provide it?

I believe that you may have left out an apostrophe and a letter...but one has to have a rational position before one can relate. You do not. Heck, you don't really seem to have much of an explainable position at all....as the appeals to emotion and reliance on the script, do not take the place of reason.

  3. The left is always quick to point out that the Republicans have gotten much more extreme, and while I can't say that I disagree with that fully, it is also fair to say that based upon Mr. Powell's above referenced comments (along with some other observations of mine), so, too, have the Democrats and big time.
