The Obamacare charade......from the horse's mouth

Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber said that lack of transparency was a major part of getting Obamacare passed because “the stupidity of the American voter” would have killed the law if more people knew what was in it.
Gruber, the MIT professor who served as a technical consultant to the Obama administration during Obamacare’s design, also made clear during a panel quietly captured on video that the individual mandate, which was only upheld by the Supreme Court because it was a tax, was not actually a tax.
“This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure CBO did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies. Okay, so it’s written to do that.  In terms of risk rated subsidies, if you had a law which said that healthy people are going to pay in – you made explicit healthy people pay in and sick people get money, it would not have passed… Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really really critical for the thing to pass.”

Of course, repeal efforts are doomed to failure, because it's already been implemented. Once pigs make it to the trough, its hell to convince them to back away......

  1. You really don't get what he's saying, do you?

    1. I understand exactly what he's saying; but in your expected defense of an unconstitutional federal mandate to purchase a commodity from a private entity, I eagerly await your 'explanation'.

    2. Looks like he understands it very clearly, Jersey.

Const: Yes, I agree that forcing families to cut spending on education, housing, food, vacations etc in order to pay for a product they may or may not need is a bad policy.

    3. Doubt you will get a response, CI. Jersey is rather scarce these days. And even when he was around, he had a habit sometimes of saying completely unsupportable things and then running away from them.

    4. I can't begrudge someone for being busy.....god knows I am at times. But I am interested in him revisiting his initial comment.

    5. I doubt begrudge him being busy, CI. I was however referring to when he is very active, he sometimes lobs huge unsupported whoppers like this and runs off. To be active on others, elsewhere.

  2. While I hate to quote Fox News's, Megan Kelly, I really gotta agree with her on this one. This IS a smoking-gun.

  3. Obama was actually against the individual mandate UNTIL he got a boat load of money from the health insurance industry (Timothy Carney documents it in his book, "Obamanomics", using opensecrets.org as his source) and then made it the center-piece of his plan.......Yeah, this guy is real anticorporate.

  4. Will: Based on this and other issues, Obama is definitely more pro-corporate than GWB.

And of course, he is still a progressive. Progressivism... the advocacy of the interests of the rulers at the expense of the people... is often quite comfortable with corporations.

It is the independent corporations, outside of crony capitalism and corrupt relationships with government... the ones that are private and thus controlled by the people and not the state.. that are the ones that the Progressive super-state hates.

  5. The progressives have a pretty checkered war history as well (TR, Wilson, etc.).

  6. Will: Yes. Progressives are very anti-war, the only exceptions being the wars they love.
