Historical "Gun Safety"

  1. Except, they weren't considered citizens. So it's a weebit strawmanish...

And the 2nd Amendment was crafted so Whites could go on murderous rampages against the Indians and rebel blacks without waiting for the Government to kill them.

For instance see the Paxton Boys and the Conestoga Massacre.

    1. No, even though they should have been [as they were the original citizens of the land] they weren't.

However, mentioning strawman....founding members of the Government crafted the 2A, just so they could "go on murderous rampages" sans Government??

Seems more than a wee bit contorted.

  2. CI, Yes.... "A Well Regulated Militia" part ring a bell? The local boys get together with their muskets and take down the savages or round up the runaways.

    1. It sure does, as does the commn meaning of the day. I'm more apt to rely on the actual merits debates of the 2A by the Founders than modern, partisan interpretations based more on emotional than logic.

  3. I don't follow your statement. Are you asserting that local non-government bands of early white settlers never fought against or slaughtered Indians?

The basic job of Hollywood 1956 and before was to show and justify courageous bands of Whites taming the land and killing off the savages infesting it.

    1. Not at all...I'm saying that it was the Government who instituted and implemented the 2A. Tendering the notion that they did so, so that armed mobs could go on 'murdering rampages' does not comport with the discussions of the day, on the merits of having a citizenry armed for their defense.

  4. @Gene: you seem to believe that every instance of actions against the Indians was a White knee-jerk example of genocide. Yes, there were some unfortunate cases of excesses, but there were many examples of justifiable counter-attack, in a form that both sides at the time could understand.

Your statements fall into line with those who proclaim that Islam is a perpetual "religion of peace".

And yes, the Indians were not considered citizens, & they agreed. A state does not sign treaties with its own citizens, & the tribes today are quite in agreement when it comes to convenient excuses for establishing casinos on their "tribal lands".

The militia were not "non-governmental". Even the small bands that were constituted as posses had to be sworn in by the sheriff. An excellent example (not American per se but technically so for the purpose of jurisprudence) was the early Texas Rangers during the days of the Republic.

And just as I would agree that not every White was a sterling example of fraternal bliss, the notion that every Indian was some kind of Noble Savage is historically ridiculous.

    1. Nicholas,

Please re-read your horrible post. Equating White attacks on Indians (the actions of the Paxton Boys were called an atrocity by Benjamin Franklin) falls in line with those who equate Islam is the Religion of Peace?

And nice job declaring all those white bandit raiders were actually government because Government is always evil Q.E.D.

You don't know it but your whole post smacks of white entitlement. Those damn Indians and their convenient excuses about tribal lands and casinos!
