An Educated look at school Medication

  1. Agree with medicating kids. It's a racket. My ex husband's nephew was diagnosed w/ADD and the social worker recommended meds. Thankfully his sister refused. He grew up fine, he was just a pain in the ass.

Not sure I agree with schools failing to teach altogether, though. I need context. Example: did the child receiving a passing grade for getting a simple equation also got 29 other questions correct?

  2. I can't speak intelligently enough on the overall condition of schools either, except that we homeschool our daughters right now due to the utter inadequacy of our county system. Right down the highway in Fairfax is one of the best systems in the nation though.....

I remember when I was in 4-6 grade, I went to a new public school where a system of badges was introduced. Actual pins you wore on your shirt. The first level was 'Almost There' and the next and highest was "Self Manager".

I didn't give it much thought at the time....but it seems a bit odd to me now.
